What We Do

Based on an idea which came out of the Tom Fleming workshops, the Consortium worked with a wider writing group – drawn from What Next? Sheffield participants – to apply for ACE funding, to establish a Creative Guild for the city. The bid has been successful, with match funding provided by the University of Sheffield, Sheffield Hallam University and Sheffield City Council.

Sheffield Creative Guild is a membership cooperative for creative individuals and organisations across from the city region. We aim to connect, support and promote members through an online platform, a creative timebank and a programme of events.

A Board of 13 people was selected through an open call process. Board Members cover a wide range of creative specialisms, and a balance of gender, age, and organisational or freelance status: Luisa Golob (Chair), James Lock, Frank Wilkes, Nisha Lall, Julie Fancher, Max Cunningham, Saskia Palmer, Lizzy Alageswaran, Kiran Antcliffe, Robert Scott, Jonny Douglas, Steve Pool, and Phil Lockwood.

The Guild membership is now open for pioneer members and will launch officially with a party on Friday 20th May 2016. For more information contact Jane Dawson on

Sheffield Creative Guild is all of us, together, from all disciplines.

There are no tribes here, no hierarchies.

We are as different as crochet and coding

We are old hands and fresh blood – leaders and learners

But we are all creative, and that makes us equals

And we love and believe in what we do

And that connects and unites us like nothing else

And that makes our city bigger, brighter, stronger.

Easier to see, more shining and special than ever

That connection expands us and inspires us and opens us up

To all kinds of wonderful happenings.

And we should all be in.
