Sheffield Creative Guild: Call for Board Members

Closing date: Applications now closed

Based on consultation with over 200 people in Sheffield’s creative communities, and supported by What Next? Sheffield, the Sheffield Culture Consortium has obtained funding from Arts Council England, the University of Sheffield, Sheffield Hallam University and Sheffield City Council to set up a Creative Guild for the city.

The Guild will be a subscription organisation providing a shared website for all creative practitioners – part public directory, part member’s forum. It will show the size, scope and diversity of the sector; promote creative practitioners and enterprises, and help those wanting to commission work to find suitable artists; improve networking and collaboration, reducing the isolation of freelancers; and give a clear route for communication, consultation and lobbying. The Guild will do this through an on-line ‘courtyard’ based on the city’s historic ‘Little Mesters’ model, quarterly meetings, skills sharing and a figurehead Creative Ambassador. The Guild should be open for membership by June 2015.

We are looking for around 9 people to become Board members, to help set up the Guild, including recruiting 3-day per week staffing support. The closing date for expressions of interest is 10pm on Thursday 27th November. This is an unpaid role, but it should be an exciting and rewarding project which strongly benefits the city’s creative communities.

Further details on the Guild, including how to apply to be a Board Member, are attached.
