Promoting artistic endeavour, supporting wellbeing, and creating a magnet city.
The Culture Consortium ongoing plan is available (as a PDF) here.
Sheffield Culture Consortium stands in solidarity against the oppression of Black people across the country and around the world.
As members of the Culture Consortium, and as representatives of some of the city’s prominent arts organisations, we acknowledge that we have a responsibility to actively support the Black Lives Matter movement: we have reached a point in history where silence is equivalent to complicity.
Racism has no place in our society, and arts institutions should not only act as a safe space for people of colour, but speak out against prejudice and root out any systemic racism that persists within our own sector. Members of the Culture Consortium will be working together to improve our practices and our thinking both as individual organisations and as a collective. We know that there are ways in which we can all act as better allies and to create, rather than simply applaud, change.
Over the coming weeks we will work on a concrete plan and will share our steps publicly, to make clear our commitment to real change in the way we function as organisations, as a consortium, as a sector, and as a city.
