Generously funded for a second time by Arts Council England, Cultural Destinations 2 builds on the success of Cultural Destinations 1 in highlighting Sheffield’s cultural offer and giving reasons to visit and linger. The project includes city promotion and further development of Our Favourite Places www.ourfaveplaces.co.uk with key themes being developed: Music City, Street Art City, Modernist City, Festival City and Beer City.
Where Sheffield’s first Cultural Destinations programme sought to bring international artists to the city, CD2 is working with artists from and based in Sheffield who have significant international reputations and recognition. These artists are taking centre stage in curating programmes of original work which will attract new audiences to Sheffield as a city with a strong and eclectic cultural offer.
In June 2017, Mark Fell presented Lush Spectra, an electronic music experience in the restored Non-Conformist Chapel in Sheffield’s Grade 1 Listed Victorian General Cemetery.
In March 2018, internationally-acclaimed illustrator Phlegm will undertake a unique and time-limited street art commission.
In Autumn 2018, Sheffield artist and writer Tim Etchells will create and commission a celebration of Modernism, linking with Off the Shelf, Sheffield’s world-class literature festival.
